Deuteronomy 3-4 | Overcoming The Fear of Man
"Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you." (Deuteronomy 3:22)
Most people live with a constant debilitating problem: the fear of man. Their lives are shaped and directed by worrying about what other people will think or do. How others will respond.
THE REASON
At its heart is pride that wants people to think the best of us. This is why we shy away from tough decisions. Don't witness. Are afraid to speak the truth when the truth needs to be stated. Dress to please others. Buy clothes when we don't need them. Are afraid to get really honest and transparent for fear of what others will think. Give a better impression of ourselves than is strictly true. Frame our conversations so we come off in the best light ... and on and on and on. It is a life-altering problem.
Its remedy? Admit your sin of man-fearing and learn to live your life to please no one but God. Realize that there is nothing to fear from man. That God will fight your battles if you will trust Him. Rest your faith in the absolute sufficiency of Your Father. If You are pleasing Him and if you are under His protection and care, you have nothing to fear.
And, like Jesus, take the constant posture of "Not my will, but Thine be done." Trusting your life and reputation and safety in His hands will usher in the most life-changing, God-glorifying results.
Father, give me grace to fear no one but You. I lay my reputation and my protection at Your feet. Thank You that You have never lost a battle and You always take care of Your own!
