1 Samuel 13-14 | God's Mathematics
Then Jonathan said to the young man who was carrying his armor, “Come and let us cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; perhaps the Lord will work for us, for the Lord is not restrained to save by many or by few.” His armor-bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart; turn yourself, and here I am with you according to your desire.”
God's people will always be outnumbered. There is a mathematical difference in size between those on the broad road versus the narrow, Jesus said. But God's equations in battles that matter defy man's best thinking.
GOD + 1 = MAJORITY
Jonathan and his servant discovered this. They were prompted by God to attack 20 men and they stood in simple faith and obeyed. Not only did he overcome 20 men, but it ushered in an earthquake-assisted rout of the entire horde.
I love that Jonathan stood in face of insurmountable odds in simple faith. And, I love that his loyal servant stood at his side. Jonathan believed in the sufficiency of the Ultimate Warrior, and the results were stunning.
We face huge enemies today—to our families, our lives, our church, and our nation. May God give us the courage and faith of a Joshua! And may we stand, shoulder-to-shoulder in the battle.
Father, commander of the hosts of heaven; thank You for joining with Your children who depend on You. Thank You for Your absolute sufficiency for any situation we face! Help us to not trust in anyone else but You.
