2 Kings 24-25 | The State of our Nation

I am a very patriotic man, with no reservations. I'm grateful for the privileges and freedoms we have. It has paved the way for the freedom of religion and the propagation of the gospel, both here and around the world, that is so vital to the spread of God's truth.

But my heart is not filled with celebration about our nation, but heaviness. Today's reading in 2 Kings 25 exactly expresses what I see in our nation right now.

Now on the seventh day of the fifth month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. He burned the house of the Lord, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every great house he burned with fire. So all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down the walls around Jerusalem. Then the rest of the people who were left in the city and the deserters who had deserted to the king of Babylon and the rest of the people, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away into exile. (2 Kings 25:8-11)

The enemy has come in like a flood and the walls of righteousness, holiness, and truth are broken down. Our land is filled with division and anger. We are committing a multiple of sins compounding our condition before God. And, the greatest sin is that, by and large, we have forgotten God and walked away from Him.
There is one remedy, as always. To humble ourselves before the God who made us and cry out to Him for deliverance. But, if we do not, we are no different than any nation that has turned its back on its Maker. And we will fall on under the increasing judgment of God.

Father, forgive us. You have blessed us as a nation beyond measure. But we have walked away from You. We are grateful for the thousands who are crying out to You for deliverance and we join them in that cry. For Your sake and the advancement of Your kingdom, Lord, please send a nationwide revival to the church and a spiritual awakening among those who are far from You.
