Amos 1:1, Amos 9 | Our Promise-Keeping God
It is hard for us to imagine someone who always keeps and even exceeds his promises. But there is One who is perfect in this regard. A simple illustration (one of millions) will illustrate.
1948
… was an incredible year for the nation of Israel. They were restored as a nation in the land promised to their father, Abraham. This was a direct fulfillment of a promise given to the Israelites, announced through the prophet, Amos, 3,000 years earlier.
“Also I will restore the captivity of My people Israel,
And they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them;
They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine,
And make gardens and eat their fruit.
“I will also plant them on their land,
And they will not again be rooted out from their land
Which I have given them,”
Says the Lord your God. (Amos 9:14-15)
The Israelites were scattered across the world. But, in 1948, they were constituted again as a nation in an unprecedented way in their original land.
I visited Israel for the first time in the late ’70s. Although beautiful, there were vast sections that were barren. Even in the 70’s, you saw the desolation of the land that had happened through centuries of foreign occupations.
If you visit Israel today you will find one of the most beautiful nations in the world. Every inch is “blossoming like a rose.” The Valley of Jezreel, the future site of the battle of Armageddon, is a rich, agricultural Eden. The remarkable production and influence of Israel is not consistent with its size. It exists as a jewel of God’s making.
HE’S FAITHFUL
God has proven it over and over again. He made irrevocable promises to Abraham, Isaac, Israel, and David. And He fulfilled them. It is my belief that Israel will never again be rooted from their land until the Lord returns, based upon this promise and others.
If He is faithful to Israel for His purposes, He will be faithful to you. If you have come to know and believe in Him, there are thousands of promises which are given for your life, there for the believing. You can enter into your birthright given to all God’s born-again children. And He’ll fulfill every promise, just as He said.
Father, thank You for being a promise-keeping God. Forgive me for not believing You more. Help me to read Your Word and believe what You have said that the world might see Your faithfulness more through my life. Be glorified through Your faithfulness to me.
