Luke 12 | Six Reasons Why It Is Absolutely Useless To Worry

In a simple paragraph, if we will listen, Jesus gives us the tools to solve one of our greatest problems. Worry is debilitating. It paralyzes you, freezing you on a fear for the future. It steals the joy from the current moment, consuming you with thoughts ahead. If indulged in often, it can make you a miserable person and affect everyone around you.

Jesus knew this joy-killer would be one of our toughest battles and so He gives us the truth that can set us free in Luke 12:22-34.

THE PROBLEM
"Do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on." (vs. 22)

THE SOLUTION

1. This is not where real life is.
"For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing." (vs. 23)

2. God takes care of creation and you are his most valuable creation.
"Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!" (vs. 24); consider the lilies... (vs. 27-28)

3. Worry changes nothing.
"And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life's span?" (vs. 25)

4. Worry is the path for those who don't know God, but your Father knows you and everything you need.
"For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things." (vs. 30)

5. If you will seek His kingdom, God promises to give you all you need, and gladly!
"But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom." (vs. 31-32)

6. Understand where real investment should be placed and where unfailing riches are.
"Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, your heart will be also." (vs. 33-34)

Father, remind me today that worry is an indisputable indicator of my faith. Help me see that when I worry, I am showing the world that I don’t believe in Your power to take care of things in my life. Give me the faith that believes and depends upon You alone.
