Judges 15-16 | Guarding Our Hearts
"Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her... after this; it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah." (Judges 16:1,4)
Samson had many weaknesses. He was greatly used to deliver Israel for a season, and he could have been one of the most outstanding leaders of all time. But what destroyed him in the end and cut short his effectiveness was his unguarded passion.
From one bed to another, he thought he could toy with sin and that somehow he was above the effects of immorality.
The end of the story?
Delilah said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" And he awoke from his sleep and said, "I will go out as at other times and shake myself free." But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him." (vs. 20)
Samson lost the one thing that made him powerful; the presence of God. Without that, he was just a mere man.
Are you toying with immorality of any kind? Its accessibility on the internet makes it so easy and so deadly. In the New Testament, God gives a one-word antidote: "Flee!"
Don't assume you are above destruction if you play with fire.
