Isaiah 44-45 | Who Will Save Us?

“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:22)

We are in desperate need. All around us we see evidence of the depravity of man. One more news cycle declares one more illustration of our sins: prejudice, anger, murder, killing of the unborn, immorality and abuse, hypocrisy and pride … and the list goes on.

During the days of COVID19, we utterly shut down across the world. A microscopic bug has humbled the nations. We are powerless against an unseen enemy. Who will save us? Who could deliver us?

ONLY ONE

Throughout history, God has allowed us to come to the end of ourselves. He is getting our attention. He is calling us to cease striving, be still and know that He alone is God. Here in Isaiah, God gives us the simple solution. He calls to the “ends of the earth” and gives one clear answer; one step we must take: TURN TO ME.

Turn is an action. It is not “think of Me” or “write about Me” but “turn.” To turn to God means we must turn from our idols. Read Isaiah 44-45 and you will see that the Prophet is reminding Israel of the futility of false gods. They are nothing and can produce nothing. They are powerless to save.

“For I am God and there is no other,” the Lord declares. This is not boasting on God’s part but a statement of reality. Where else can we look? Who could reverse the tide and change history? Who can save and deliver people and nations? Who can heal the body and who can heal the soul? Who can change a man’s nature and redeem him from the inside out?

Only One. And it is time to turn to Him and be saved.

Oh, God, forgive us for looking to other idols. For resisting and refusing You. For believing that we can find life and salvation anywhere else. You alone provide what we need. You only can deliver us from all that destroys us. So, Lord, this morning, I turn to You! I gladly repent of any false god in my life and proclaim that You are God and there is no other. And I will follow You by Your grace.
