1 Corinthians 1-2 | Your Glorious Calling and Privilege

"God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:9)

When we enter a new job, we often receive a job description. Either verbally or written, we are told what this is all about and what our role is to be.

At the beginning of the letter to the Corinthians, Paul reminds us—in one profound sentence—of what the Christian life is all about.

We are called into fellowship with Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The word "fellowship" is "koinonia" and means the "sharing of a common life." It means to be connected, to be united in a unique, organic way. We are in Christ, and Christ is in us. We share His life!

The ramifications of this union are stunning. Everything that Christ is and has, we have. We are "heirs and joint-heirs with Him." (Romans 8). We can talk with Him and hear Him. We are ONE as He and the Father are one. Jesus' lengthy prayer in John 17 is His cry that we would understand this union.

Christianity is not merely rules and rituals but a relationship. It's the privilege of sharing life with Jesus. It is to be intimate and constant. The tragedy is, we don't realize what we have now that we have Him. We revert to our previous lifestyle of humanistic independence. It's like being married but forgetting it and living as if you're not married. You lose all the privileges of sharing life with your mate, but also the joy and power of that union.

Are you fellowshipping with Christ today? If not, you're living below your birthright. It is why you've been called and saved by a faithful God!

Father, thank You for calling us into such an amazing union.

Help us understand and experience the height and depth of this privilege today.
