Hebrews 7 | Christ's Intercession For Us

Therefore, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25)

If you don’t know how completely unable you are to save yourself from sin, death, and hell, you will not understand why this verse is so important. If you can’t make yourself right with God, (and you can’t), then who can?

OUR NEED

Whether you recognize it or not, you were born separated from God and, therefore, under the judgment of your sin. We were sinners by birth, and because of this condition, we become sinners by choice. Our whole life is unacceptable to God because we are living independently from God. Even our best religious acts (before we are saved by Christ) are sinful because they are done from the vain belief that we can make ourselves right with God without dependency upon God.

WE NEED A SAVIOR

In the book of Hebrews, God tells us the beauty of Christ, our Savior.

HIS ABILITY TO HELP

For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. (Hebrews 2:18)

HIS ABILITY TO SYMPATHIZE

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

Now, the writer speaks of …

HIS ABILITY TO SAVE

Therefore, He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him (Hebrews 7:25)

BUT HOW?

He makes intercession for us. He stands in the gap between us and God, providing a way for our sins to be forgiven and entrance into the Kingdom assured. We use the word “intercession” for prayer. But this expands the word. He speaks to the Father on our behalf. He does what is necessary to assure the answer. He is for us, and He is that continually. His intercession saves us.

And, we are saved as we “draw near to God through (Christ).” Not through ourselves, not through church, not through any other means. The only way we are inability to draw near to God is through our Savior-Intercessor, Jesus Christ.

Christ is interceding on your behalf, if you are a believer who has come near because of Christ. Think of this glorious, personal, holy thought about Jesus. Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Father, thank You for interceding for me. I’m overwhelmed that You do this constantly, fully, perfectly. You can save me, and You have saved Me … and it is all because of Your great, High Priestly work.
