Revelation 20-22 | Our New Home

One day soon, this world will be burned with fire and completely wiped clean. In its place, there will come down a "new heaven and a new earth," Revelation 21-22 tells us. This means the current earth will be redeemed. Eden will be restored. A new earth and new heavens will come from God for us! It is the new home for every believer of all the ages.

Its centerpiece is "the new Jerusalem," and it is stunning. Let the Apostle John give you a little virtual tour around your new home! A heavenly 360!

IT'S BUILDER AND ARCHITECT: God Himself. It is "coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God" (vs. 10)

ITS BRILLIANCE: "Her brilliance is like a very costly stone, like crystal-clear jasper." (vs. 11)

ITS WALLS: are 1500 feet square (half the distance across the United States), 1500 feet high, and 72 yards deep! (vs. 16)

ITS MATERIALS: "The wall is jasper; and the city is pure gold, like clear glass. The foundation stones of the city wall are adorned with every kind of precious stone." (vs. 18-19)

ITS GATES: (of which there are twelve) "Are twelve pearls; each one of the gates is a single pearl." (vs. 21)

ITS TEMPLE: (the usual centerpiece of God's presence in His city) is non-existent. There is no need now for a symbolic representation, or temporary dwelling-place for "the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple." (vs. 23)

ITS LIGHTING: "The city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed." (vs. 23-25)

ITS ACTIVITY: "The (nations) will bring the glory and honor of the nations into (the city)." (vs. 26) Heaven is not a place of laziness, but administration and enterprise and work, but without the curse of sin.

ITS PURITY AND ITS INHABITANTS: "And nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall EVER come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life." (vs. 27) Just imagine a city eternally untouched by evil, run by a perfect government!

ITS WATER SUPPLY: "A river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street." (22:1)

ITS FOLIAGE: "On either side of the river is the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." (22:2)

ITS FREEDOM: "There will no longer be any curse." (22:3)

ITS ACTIVITY: "The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads...and they will reign forever and ever!" (vs. 3-5)

And it is COMING QUICKLY (22:20)

Surely, as you read this description, you shout with the Apostle John, "COME, LORD JESUS!" (vs. 20)

Father, thank You that the end of all things is at hand. Thank You for the promise of our life with You eternally. Help us to live the rest of our time on this earth with eternity in view. And give us the courage to tell everyone about the only One who can make them ready.
